Sometimes it takes ridiculous amounts of time to settle an estate even if it's not that complex. After my grandmother died it took more than 3 years to settle her estate. ...And her estate was limited to a one-bedroom condo with a buyer that closed in the first month (skilled nursing facility), a checking account, and a shoebox of old savings bonds.
