I went pretty heavily into the "gig economy" when I did my Pac NW trip recently. AirBnB was $65/night in a nice lady's house, and my car totaled a bit over $70/day. I did the flight on miles, so cash costs were fairly minimal.

Next time, I am commanded to stay at my friend R's house in his spare room, so I will avoid the room cost all together.
