Hotels in the US seem to have standardized on providing three sheets atop the bed: a thin sheet, a comforter, and a thin sheet atop the comforter. We frequently pull these apart and each use whichever we need.

It's also standard in the US for there to be a spare blanket folded up in the closet. We've never used one as we've always been able to adjust the room temperature enough to avoid excessive chill.
