One of my friends stationed in the Pacific during WWII told me he was *very* glad we dropped the atom bombs. He's almost absurdly pacifist, so his comment gave me an appreciation of how awful fighting in the Pacific must have been. My friend is over 100 years old. From what you and SOME_OTHER_DAVE said, he probably wouldn't have lived a long, productive life if we hadn't deployed the atom bombs.
