This is a very funny batch of curmudgeonly coming immediately after the day I went babysitting for a hyperlocal friend...and it started with the mom saying "just meet us at the playground [between our houses]". I arrived and took the toddler-handoff, and then spent over an hour mostly standing around as the toddler got pushed in the swing by an 11 year old friend and then a 4.5 year old, chased a couple of bigger boys (6? 7?) across the playground trying to catch up with their little bikes, and traded buckets of mulch with a fellow toddler.
To be fair, I also live in what is probably one of the most walkable dense cities in America, but from what I can see, the playground half a block from my house has kiddos pretty much all sunlit hours when the temperature is better than 50 degrees...and on a 70 degree May early evening, it was PACKED!
