Griffith Observatory

Saturday evening we met up with a friend, Nicole, at our hotel in Glendale and drove over to the Griffith Observatory. Even though we lived in LA for a couple of years some time back we'd never gotten up to the observatory for a visit. So on this weekend trip we went, and fought through the hordes at sunset.

Griffith Observatory at Sunset (Oct 2021)

This observatory perched atop a ridge in the Hollywood Hills opened to the public in 1935. It's iconic for its beautiful Art Deco architecture— of which is there is actually a lot still standing across LA, if you look carefully.

How do you know it's in the Hollywood Hills? Uh, turn around....

But it's not gazing at the Hollywood sign that brings people here. It's gazing at the stars... and gazing across the LA basin.

This is a view across Century City to the Pacific Ocean (above).

Downtown LA is easily seen from here, as well.
