Second Class all the way to New York

Aboard AA 16 SFO-JFK - Friday, 11 Jun 2021, 3pm

We've certainly got nice accommodations on our flight to New York today. Here's a shot of the view in front of me:

Stretching out on our flight to New York... and this isn't even first class! [Jun 2021]

That's my legs stretched out all the way. And yes, there's a beer on my tray table. That's notable because American Airlines is one of the carriers that halted serving alcohol on flights after a recent altercation on another airline where a drunk passenger punched a flight attendant in the face over a dispute about wearing masks and knocked out two of her teeth. Up in first class, "air rage" is thought to be less of thing, so there's still booze.

Ah, but this isn't first class! This is second class, aka business. This aircraft has 3 cabins, and the seats in first are even larger.

Here's the meal American served us:

This is a pretty good airline meal... and it's not even first class! [Jun 2021]

Wow, that's about the handsomest meal I've ever seen aboard an aircraft. Between that and the lay-flat seats in business class, flying— at least above third class— has gotten way better in the past 10 years.

How much did this all cost us? Surprisingly not much! The cash outlay was literally only a few dollars each as we bought our tickets on points. I still have buckets of AA points from playing the credit card game before Citibank shut it down. And even the points cost was a deal. We got these tickets for 25,000 points each. As I figure points are worth as little as $0.01 anymore (used to be higher) that's $250. Even at twice that rate, $500 would've been a bargain for this level of luxury on a coast-to-coast flight.
