Birds on the Barbecue

Yesterday morning when I opened my kitchen door to toss a few empty cans in the recycling bin on the balcony I saw a whoosh of feathers as a bird flew off. "Was there a bird sitting on my barbecue grill?" I wondered. Then I saw a few sticks on the grill's side shelf. It looked like a bird was starting to build a nest there!

"Probably a morning dove," I said to myself. "Morning doves are terrible nest builders."

Then I spied this after lunch:

Yes! It is a morning dove! And it is building a nest on our barbecue grill!

Even funnier, I caught this a few minutes later:

In this pic you see a second bird flying away (upper left corner of the pic). When I spotted them the second bird was standing on top of the first bird. They could have been mating, they could have been simply "stacking", a thing some birds do sometimes. The bird on top spooked quickly at the noise I made inside the house as I knelt beside the door to shoot this picture and started to fly away as I pulled out my camera.

So, what did I do after this? You might imagine I shooed away the birds and brushed their nest over the edge of the balcony. No! All I did was clean the window inside and out so the next pictures I capture will be clearer. 🤣
