canyonwalker: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Travel! (planes trains and automobiles)

After an amazing hike today on the Trail of Ten Falls we were ready to take it easy. Well, first we were ready to eat, then take it easy. The three of us (me, Hawk, Dan) convoyed down to Salem and ate a late lunch/early dinner at a trendy brewery/Mexican restaurant on the west side of town. After that Dan headed back home to Portland while we drove south to our next destination, Eugene.

We checked in at a Holiday Inn Express around 5pm. We have 4 hotel reservations on this trip of just 4 nights. Curiously, those 4 reservations are at only 2 hotels. But rather than do them AABB, we're doing ABBA. We'll be here two nights. meaning we don't have to pack up everything when we go out for the day tomorrow. Yay, only checking in & out three times in 4 days!

I was pretty wiped out by the time we got to Eugene. Once we got to our room I just wanted to take a shower and flop into bed. Actually I just wanted to flop into bed but I knew I was sweaty and dusty from the hike. I knew resting would be more... well, restful... if I were clean first. After a shower I laid down in bed and wound up napping for about 90 minutes. Hawk was hungry for a light dinner and walked over to a diner a few blocks away to bring food back to the room for both of us.

We have a nice little room here at this hotel. It's a corner room that's not any bigger than a regular room but it's got two big windows on different walls. In the afternoon and evening natural light pours in here. With the long days at this time of year our room was flooded with light until after 8pm. I found that a bit disorienting as it felt much earlier than it actually was.

As the light of day faded we headed downstairs to hot tub. A good soak for 30 minutes or so loosened up my aching muscles. Not all the way, but more than the nap alone did. After that we went back to our room, where we could still see light in the sky outside. "Hmm, maybe I want a light, late supper," I said. It was almost 10pm. Disorienting!

Instead of eating I spent a while on my computer catching up on blogging (of course) and planning for tomorrow. Our plan Sunday is to visit the Cascade Raptor Center in the morning and then go hiking in the coastal mountains in the afternoon. I hope my feet and leg muscles have recovered from their achiness by then!
