The article you linked is actually debunking scare-mongering articles about SSD vulnerability. The author is specifically comparing extremes, not giving everyday usage recommendations. I think you missed the point. That said, my SSDs hardly sit idle on the shelf for years at a time. They're light and fast, so I copy files to them every month or two.
