Trade shows and SKOs are often brutal schedules. This year's SKO in Las Vegas has been one of the gentler ones I've attended. There have been only 2 days of training sessions bracketed by 3 evening receptions. Often there are 3 to 3.5 days of Death by PowerPoint. And especially in Vegas there's the temptation to overdo it in the evenings.

Tuesday night I drank a bit more than I meant to. I stopped drinking at 9pm, but the last drink was a doozy. (I asked for a Manhattan; the the bartender poured a triple of bourbon and added a cherry. But it was good bourbon. 🥴) As a result I slept fitfully and got maybe 5 hours of sleep before my 6am alarm to be present for the full day's agenda starting at 7.

Last night I tried to be more responsible. I limited my drinking to about half. I was in my room earlier. But then my body decided I wasn't going to fall asleep, even with the help of a mild OTC sleeping pill (aka Benadryl). I was tossing and turning until 2am... with morning alarm still at 6am. 😖

I've been okay so far today. It helps that we're not actually doing Death By PowerPoint. ...Well, maybe some other teams are, but my team had a breakout after lunch today. We used it to have an open format discussion about which techniques are working in our jobs, which are not, and how we can improve the latter.

There's one more evening reception to go, tonight. This is where I think the last few nights of short sleep may catch up with me. I'm taking a short break before dinner and feeling like I'm catching the opposite of a second wind. I'll definitely go to the team dinner; I've still got to eat! But I may crash after that.

NextI hunt for a playable game. It's a bust!
