My da is a big shot anesthesiologist which means occasionally he and mom go to Extremely Fancy Events together (when I was in college, I got to go with him to eat at the Locke-Ober in Boston, which is probably the fanciest restaurant I've ever eaten at).

Mom is pretty salt-of-the-earth. At one restaurant she was at, when the waiter came round for drink orders, she could tell that the place didn't really do sodas and so said something like she'd like a coke zero but since they don't have it just a water would be fine.

"If madame wants a coke zero, we can do that" the waiter replied, and while everyone else drank their fancy wine, clearly some busboy got sent out the back door to the nearest convenience store, because mom got her coke.

Mom says it's the fanciest service she's ever had --being able to dictate the menu, even when it's not necessarily to the chef's high standards.
