canyonwalkerToday actor William Shatner, best know for playing the iconic Captain Kirk in the ground-breaking Star Trek TV series (1966-1969) and 7 subsequent Star Trek movies, travels into space for real. He is a passenger aboard Blue Origin's New Shepard space craft. Traveling alongside him are two paying passengers. Jeff Bezos, billionaire founder of Amazon and Blue Origin, has long been a fan of Star Trek and comped Shatner the ride.
The rocket will travel about 62 miles above the surface of the earth, reaching the Kármán Line, broadly agreed to be the boundary between the upper atmosphere and space. At age 90 Shatner will be the oldest person to have flow to space.
