My inlaws recently gifted us a pair of beer steins from Austria.

...Okay, recently is an inaccurate description. They told us these were a gift when we visited them 6 months ago, at Thanksgiving. They shipped them to us in March/April, when shipping delays and price surcharges from the winter subsided a bit. I left the box unopened next to my office for 4 weeks, then took this picture when I unboxed the steins but haven't posted about it until now, at least a week later. Whew. It's a good thing I haven't been waiting on a drink that long!
Gift is an odd description, too. 😅 Yes, it was a thing that was given, freely. It fits the dictionary definition of the word. But gift generally implies a thing that was picked out with the person in mind. This was more like, "We've had this thing in a cabinet for at least 30 years and have never used it and are tired of it taking up space, would you like it since it seems a shame to throw away something this nice?"
And I was like, "Sure, okay, I'll take that even though I don't really have a space for it either, because it seems nice." 🤣
I'll try to use them for what they were intended for... which I presume is actually to drink, and not just to take up space in a cabinet. Or maybe in 30 years I'll pass them along, still unused, to the next generation. Prosit!
