The last thing that had me hanging on to the possibility of staying past the very near future at my job was the chance that I'd be named to Club this year. ("Club", as I've described before, is short for President's Club and is an incentive travel reward for top performers offered by many sales organizations.) If I made Club, I agreed with my spouse, I'd consider whether to stick around another several months depending on where Club is. Well, two strikes against that happened this evening.

First, they announced Club would be in Los Cabos (again). Los Cabos was literally the one place we agreed was probably not worth us going to. Like, we would seriously consider turning down a free 3-night trip there if one was offered. The other strike against it, the main strike, was that it wasn't even offered. 😓

There is now almost zero chance I will remain employed at this company a few weeks from now.

BTW, why am I so negative about not going to Club?

It's because this year I supported 4 sales reps. Those sales reps all finished far, far above their quotas:

  • 175%
  • 200%
  • 237%
  • 274%

Yes, the least performing rep reached 175% of his quota, and the best of the 4 reps nearly tripled his quota. I was a key part of the team of each of these 4 winners. They're all going to Club. Their boss, my boss, is going to Club, because we blew out his number.. Their grand-boss, my grand-boss is going to Club, too, because of our success. But I'm not.

A job is an economic arrangement. The company pays me for the value of the work I do for them. They don't want to compensate me appropriately for the outsized success I've delivered? Fuck them.

OMG. You could have described my husband's situation to a "T". He has been the top performing Sales VP with the top performing team for 3 out of the lst 4 years. He was #2 the other year, and the generally accepted rule is that the top 3 Sales VPs go. This is a large, nationwide company with no shortage of funds. He was completely left out of the Club trip the last two years (Cabo, haha), with no explanation. His boss, boss's boss, exactlly what you said- everyone...but not him. His team was incredulous. Remember that "They are just not that into you" bit? Well, that's what it looks like. He was in serious job hunting mode last year after he was rejected for the second time. But now bonus time is rolling around, and he expects a serious bonus (they can't lie about his numbers whether they like him or not!) and the company is getting very close to going public. This will be a game changer. And then, poof. He'll take the money and run.

I hate this for you and completely relate. It's not happening to me- but I have a front row seat. It really sucks, and is an ego-buster for sure.
