A Belated Gift from Marriott

Several months ago I got a gift in the mail from Marriott. Or maybe it was a year or two ago; I don't remember. It was a gift of some kind. It came in a mysterious black-on-black box.



I figured it was some fluff from Marriott's Bonvoy elite status program and put it aside unopened.

At some point I read online that Marriott was sending a small gift to its high end elite members. I don't think I connected the dots that this would be a gift to me. I'd already put the box aside and forgotten about it.

This week I saw I noticed it again when I was sifting through a pile of stuff that's been sitting on the corner of my desk.



Indeed it is a gift from Marriott for my Lifetime Titanium status in their too-preciously renamed Bonvoy program. That a gift would've arrived sometime several months ago surprised me because I earned Lifetime Titanium back at the start of 2018.

Thus it's apropos that I slept on this gift for several months, considering Marriott slept on sending it to me for 5 years. 😂

But what kind of gift would it be? Would it be a commemorative plaque like United Airlines gave me when I reached Million Miler status? Actually it turns out Marriott's gift is... useful? Maybe? 😆



It's a pair of luggage tags. They're heavy leather sheaths with leather straps and embossed metal plaques proclaiming "LIFETIME TITANIUM".

I might actually use these. Well, I might actually use the one that's tasteful black instead of the one adorned with polka dot pattern that looks like a party dress my grandma wore in the 1970s.

The colorful one looks kind of like a map. My imagination is saying it's a map of an European city like Paris, with the different colors denoting different kinds of buildings.

Or even a DnD city map.

Yeah, it's actually a stylized city map, not polka dots. The colored shapes are blocks in the city. The gaps between them are the streets and a river. But from any distance it looks similar to a polka dot or random-colorful-geometric-shapes pattern dress that was in style back in the 1960s or 1970s.
