Thanksgiving Travelog #4
Dale City, VA - Sat, 18 Nov 2023. 10pm.
Today has been a long day. Coming off of just 3 hours sleep on a red-eye flight we drove west toward Winchester to visit my niece, Tessa, over lunch and into mid-afternoon, then drove back east to Ashburn to meet my cousin, Matt, and his wife for dinner. Now after dinner we've driven south to Dale City and checked into our hotel, where we're staying as a base of operations for the next few days. Today both does and doesn't seem like we've done a lot of driving. The car's odometer, though, shows we've driven 150 miles.
Speaking of driving, we've got more of it on top for tomorrow. Not 150 miles worth, but maybe 80. We're headed up to the District to visit a museum in the morning. We'll probably spend most of the day at the museum, then head up to Silver Spring to meet a couple old friends of Hawk's for dinner. After that it's back here to Dale City. Could we be staying somewhere closer to Silver Spring tomorrow night, just like we could have stayed somewhere closer to Ashburn tonight? Yes to both... but what we'd save in driving time we'd spend in packing up/unpacking time. And the place we're staying is pretty cheap because I booked it months ago. Sometimes that seem strange at first blush from a standpoint of travel optimization have a subtle efficiency.
