Broken Toe not Broken

Hawk had her visit with a specialist today after maybe breaking her toe on Tuesday. The result: the doc says it's actually not broken. The swelling and discoloration are a result of blood vessels bursting from jamming it really hard. While that sounds a bit gory it's good news compared to having a broken bone. Swelling will heal much faster than a fracture, and walking on it does not risk worsening a fracture. Even more importantly it means we don't need to cancel the week of hiking and outdoors sightseeing we have planned in 10 days.

The benefit of having thick bones is they don't break easy. I thought I had broken the base of the toe and am very relived for that to not have happened.

My doc did say that if he hadn't already seen the x-rays, he would have automatically assumed something was broken with the extensive bruising I have.
