canyonwalker: Uh-oh, physics (Wile E. Coyote)

I cut a finger on my right hand last night. I was reaching for a cutting disc for the food processor and sliced the tip of my finger open. No, I didn't stick my hand in the food processor. You can banish that squicksome image from your mind. The disc was on the counter, and I cut open my finger when it brushed against it.

The injury is not super serious. I was able to staunch the bleeding by applying constant pressure. The wound was not closing up by itself, though, so I had to wrap a bandage pretty tightly around it. And it stung. All night.

In trying to keep my right hand away from further injury (the wound could reopen easily) I'm realizing how many little bumps and abrasions my hands normally experience in the course of a day, or even an hour, at home without me thinking about it. Now I think about each one because when I don't I get a mild shock of pain to remind me. I'm also trying to lead with my left hand— use my left hand for more of the tasks I'd ordinarily do right-handed— and realizing there are a) a lot of things I do right handed without thinking about it, and b) they are surprisingly weird to do with my left hand.
