The weather's turned. After almost two weeks of above-normal heat, including a few days when high temperatures crested over 100° F, temperatures are back to normal for the season. That means other things are back to normal, too, including not running the AC nonstop and needing to give Hawk back her crafting table.

I moved my home office back out of the downstairs nook (Sep 2022)

I had moved my home office setup to this table downstairs a week ago. The week-long experiment worked well. Not only was it naturally much cooler downstairs but also I feel I benefited from the uncluttered, Spartan temporary workspace I configured. But now it's time to give that desk back to Hawk. I moved my equipment back to its normal perch in my upstairs home office this morning.

Last night I started watching Season 3 of Game of Thrones. Yes. I'm back to it after a hiatus of nearly 2 months. Unlike the 6 month break I took after Season 1 because I wasn't ready to keep watching "A Show About Terrible People", this break was actually due to wanting to catch up on my blogging backlog. 🤣 At first I thought I was only 4 weeks behind. With all the fun weekend trips we've been taking this summer 4 weeks turned into 8. But here I am now!

One of my ongoing thoughts while watching Season 2 was "This could be called The Book of Tyrion" (a play on the Star Wars spinoff The Book of Boba Fett). Tyrion Lannister was the primary viewpoint character across the season. The plot revolved primarily around his actions and his responses to events. That was a good thing because a) well, it's just a good narrative structure, but also b) Tyrion was well written and c) actor Peter Dinklage did a fantastic job, winning an Emmy for it. In that vein I wonder, who's the main character Season 3 will be about?

The events in S3E1 suggest there are two characters who might step more to the foreground to fill the blank in the unofficial title, Season 3: The Book of ____. They are Daenerys Targaryen and Margaery Tyrell.

Daenerys is hardly a new character, of course. She was introduced in S1E1 with a life's mission that was telegraphed to be critical to the entire series. But in the first two seasons her plotline was only in fourth or fifth place in terms of screen time. I think there's a chance this season might focus on her more strongly. The reason is that she's stepping up, both in power to shift world events and as a character through through whom a moral story can be told.

Margaery is a recent arrival in the TV story. She only appeared late in Season 2, though she quickly moved into a position of prominence in the story. S3E1 features some interesting character development, with her bringing a breath of goodness to an evil place. I'd enjoy seeing Season 3 build a major story arc around her.
