After Hawk got hurt while hiking on Saturday that was kind of it for the weekend. We aborted the rest of our planned trip, visited an urgent care clinic on Saturday afternoon, and drove home.

Urgent care wasn't much use other than as triage. "It's not a go-to-the-emergency-room thing like a blood clot, but you'll need to follow up with a real doctor," was about all the clinician there could tell us. Oh, and that Hawk has really muscled legs. She's now the second (of two!) woman in the past month or so to feel Hawk's legs and remark how well muscled they are. (The other was a female colleague of mine on the Grand Cayman trip. I forget the reason they were grabbing each other.)

We took it easy at home Sunday and Monday. ...Hawk, because she had to, and me because... well, I wasn't going to go out anywhere and leave Hawk alone.

Monday afternoon Hawk got an appointment with her physical therapist. The guy's more than just a PT, though. I call him "the body whisperer". When it comes to musculo-skeletal conditions he's like Ray Charles playing piano. He doesn't need to see it, he can feel it through his fingers. I shared that comparison with him and he laughed. "Yeah, getting an x-ray at this point is superfluous," he agreed.

The PT confirmed what the urgent care PA suspected. It's a partial muscle tear. The galling thing is Hawk wasn't even doing anything wild when it tore. She didn't fall, she didn't take a hard knock, she just took a step. Anyway, the prognosis for this kind of thing is that it heals itself. It just takes time. Hopefully it's healed enough to hike again in time for our July 4 travel plans!
