My Nut Sack was Too Big...
Aug. 2nd, 2022 02:28 pmMy nut sack was too big so I... froze half of it!
I'm talking, of course, about a bag of cashews from Costco. 🤣

The nuts are good quality and sell at a great price, but they only come in a 2.5 lb (1.13 kg) package. It takes me about a year to consume this quantity of nuts. Over the space of a year an open bag would go stale sitting in the pantry. I've eaten stale nuts before.... They're not bad; but they're also not good. The excellent unit price Costco sells these for becomes a questionable bargain if the initially strong product quality deteriorates to the point that it's no longer enjoyable and instead is merely tolerable.
I bought these nuts back in the winter. Right away I poured half into a handy container (left over from the previous batch of nuts I bought) and froze the other half. A bit of online searching told me that nuts freeze well for several months. In addition to closing the resealable bag they came in I tucked that bag into a Zip-Loc freezer bag. I figured double air-tight layers would preserve the nuts from freezer burn, which is caused by evaporation of moisture at low temperatures.
I've just started thawing this batch of nuts so I don't know how well they did in the freezer for 6 months. I'll update soon when they're ready to eat.
