There's good news/bad news on the new MacBook Air I ordered July 23. The good news was that it shipped on the 29th with expected delivery by Aug 9— an improvement over the estimate of Aug 10 ~ Aug 19 when I ordered. Even better, it cleared US customs this morning (it was shipped from China), and UPS estimates delivery by tomorrow.

The bad news? It's UPS. Their drivers are notorious for not even attempting to deliver a package when it requires a signature. Waiting for a signature would slow they down too much and hurt their numbers. They just tag a "Nobody was home" sticker on the door and hop back in the truck. Fuck UPS, that bunch of fuckups.

That shit drives me insane. I used to have this trouble all the time. I'd be expecting a case of wine, then suddenly get a text alert for "missed delivery".

I called and pitched a fit. They said the driver said I wasn't home. I told them I work from home, and even if I didn't, my nonagenarian in-laws are always home, so ring the goddamned doorbell.

Now I have a new driver who doesn't even make me sign for things now. I just stick my head out the window and wave, he leaves my box, and I can grab it after I get the dog into another room.

I've raised a fuss with filing complaints a few times, but long term it has made no difference. I think there's too much turnover for gains made with any one delivery person or any one district manager to stick. Also, I've tried tipping the delivery person when they do knock, figuring that carrots work better than sticks, but the good drivers have actually refused my gratuity saying it's against company policy to accept.
