SKO Day 0: Already Up Too Late

Tuesday was "Day 0" for my company's sales kickoff (SKO). It's the day most of us were traveling to Vegas— which was an ordeal for many of us. The only official event on the schedule was an evening reception with dinner and drinks. Thankfully despite the hours of delays on my flight (and rebooking from a canceled flight) I arrived just in time to check in, unpack a few items in my room, and get back downstairs in time to join the reception promptly at 7:30pm.
There's a common saying among those of us who attend events like SKOs and trade shows frequently. "It's not a sprint, it's a marathon." We know we need to pace ourselves so we have enough energy for all the official events, particularly when they can involve some early morning starts and long days. The risk is all the unofficial events— the bonding with colleagues over drinks, gaming, and all that other stuff that can easily suck you in in Las Vegas.
Last night I headed that advice about the marathon but not quite as well as I should have. The reception ran until 9:30. After that I joined a colleague for drinks in the hotel bar. I didn't think we stayed out that late, but it was midnight when we called it a night. And I had one stiff drink too many. I felt the weight of both of those small lapses in judgement when I woke up at 6:30am today. I wasn't sick or anything; I was just wishing I'd had one fewer drink and one more hour to sleep.
I'll have to choose more carefully tonight.

Been there!
