New Zealand Travelog #22
Queenstown, NZ - Sun, 14 Apr 2024, 10pm

After finishing our hike to Red Tarns in Mt. Cook National Park we grabbed a late lunch at the hotel cafe. It was another pizza— though a different pizza (and from a different place) from the day before. It was... slightly better... but still helped by taste amplification from being so hungry. By the time we finished it was almost 4pm so we hit the road back to Queenstown. We're staying in a hotel near the airport tonight to catch a flight tomorrow morning to Wellington.

The drive down to Queenstown was reasonable. It was just under 260km (162 miles) and took about 3 hours. This drive brings my total driving distance this past week to 1,650km— more than 1,000 miles! I'll share my observations about driving in New Zealand in another blog.

We made a few stops along the way for leg stretching. After two strenuous hikes the past few days my legs are stiff. One interesting stop was Wrinkly Ram.

Monument to merino sheep in Omarama, NZ (Apr 2024)

The town of Omarama, NZ has this "tribute" (their words, on the plaque) to merino sheep on the main corner. These sheep, known for their fine wool, have been farmed there since 1858.
