Afternoons at the Pool

canyonwalkerOne of the benefits of working remotely, as everyone knows, is having a flexible schedule. We workers can take breaks from our desks throughout the day to start a load of laundry at home, pick up or drop off the kids at school, or just take a break. It's not cheating our employers out of work. At least, it doesn't have to be. In exchange for these breaks we tend to start work earlier and finish later— which is easy when freed up of the time otherwise lost to commuting— and do things like check/respond to message way outside of normal hours. But hey, screw all that explanation, I'm going to the pool!
I've carved out time each afternoon this week to hang out at the pool in our townhouse community. We're having great summer weather week— Tuesday, for example, saw a high of 95°, even warmer than in that forecast— so it's a beautiful week to start a little habit of visiting the pool each afternoon. And coincidentally my schedule tends to free up around 2-3pm each day, which is a great time to enjoy the warmth of the day by swimming and soaking in the pool.
As for balancing work and life, Thursday was the tightest. I had meetings until 3pm, then again from 4 'til just after 5. I snuck out to the pool for about 45 minutes between 3-4. Though even that wasn't 100% play time because while I was sitting on a lounge chair drying off after being in the water I was on my mobile phone checking work messages— checking that people confirmed attending my proposed 4pm meeting. I got back home, toweled off, brushed my hair, and changed back into business casual clothes just in time to start the meeting at 4:00.
