Back Home - Sunday, 10 Jul 2022, 11am

We flew home from Colorado this morning, having finished our week-long trip. We're home a day later than originally planned— but this time it's a good thing. The story about that is in my backlog of blogs (backblog) I'll publish in the coming days. And speaking of backblog, yes, it's pretty much a week behind. The last entry I published was from Monday, July 4, when we drove/hiked to Bridalveil and Ingram Falls in Telluride, CO. I have at least two more blogs just from that day, then I-don't-know-how-many-more from the rest of the week. I aim to be caught up by next weekend. That may be a stretch goal.

Zero-Dark-30 to DEN

As for the trip home this morning it was... okay? I mean, aside from the fact I set my alarm for 4:45am. I dressed, ate breakfast, packed the last few items in my bag, and rolled from the hotel near Denver airport at 5:30. Our flight wasn't until 7:45am, but DEN is one of those airports where you need to allow extra time because a) you need to take trams between the terminal and the concourses and b) the concourses are huge, not to mention c) their security lines are always a mess.

At least the flight left mostly on time. And in-flight wifi worked this time! And I even got maybe 20 minutes of a nap. Then we arrived on time. Just as it seemed we were on a roll of things working smoothly, good ol' SJC baggage claim took for-freakin'-ever. It seemed they had one ramp crew working 3 flights that arrived around the same time. And ours was prioritized third.

Look, Ma, no Covid!

We arrived home, as in home-home, just after 10am today (1 hour time change from Denver). I started unpacking bags right away so that I was mostly unpacked by 10:45am. All that remains to do is putting away some hiking gear such as boots and cleaning my hiking pack. Then Hawk and I both took at-home Covid-19 tests.

We figure we were exposed while we traveled. Frankly, you've just got to assume that nowadays when traveling. Infection rates are estimated to be near record highs right now, and masking and social distancing have virtually disappeared. Mask wearing in western Colorado was at 1-2%. Even at DEN airport it was only 10%. And by late this week we were both feeling some symptoms that could be Covid, namely nasal and/or chest congestion and shortness of breath.

Well, our tests just came back negative. We'll watch for symptoms over the next few days and test again if necessary. I'll see how much of my backblog I'm able to catch up on by then. 😅
