In my previous blog about hiking the trail to Ruby Lake I mentioned that it's up, up, up from the Little Lakes Valley. The trail is never steep, more of a constant incline. But as it's already at 10,000' elevation down in the valley it's tough to breathe up here.

With the constant incline some people might groan at every switchback, "Ugh, are we there yet?"
The good news is you are there. IMO we're there the whole time.

The turn out of the Little Lakes Valley into a hanging valley high in the Mono Divide is a signal that we're getting close. I mean, we're already there, but within that there's also Ruby Lake. That pond in the photo above is not Ruby Lake, BTW. It's just a pond.

As we neared that vertical wall in the back of this photo (above) we knew we were getting really close. Ruby Lake would be at the foot of it. But again, we were already there. In beauty we walk.
The adventure continues! Keep reading in part 3!
